Вышиванка — так в простонародии называют вышитую рубашку. С давнего времени вышиванка была для украинцев не просто одеждой, а оберегом, символом здоровья, крастоты и счастливой доли.
Очень много видов и вариаций вышивки, а так же дизайна самой рубашкибыло созданно в Х1Х ст. Вышиванка широко использовалась в народном костюме. Мотивы вышивки, композиции, цвета на вышиванке передавались по женской линии — от матери к дочери, от стара до млада, из поколения в поколение.
В старину и поныне символам, которые изображали на вышиванке придают особое значение, потому что она являлась окраской рода. Женщины искусстно изображали специальными знаками на них стихии огня, воды, земли и воздуха. Также можна вышить свое имя и фамилию.
